Fasting and Praying Instructions
The fast is from 12:00am-6:00pm daily. Prepare yourself first by getting familiar with the daily scripture the night before.  At 6:00 am, start your day with prayer and include in the prayer the subject and scripture of the day.  When you are praying, remind God of his words by reciting elements from the selected scriptures.  In Isaiah 55:11 it says in his word, “it shall not return unto me void”, so include in your prayer, “Lord you said in your word” and use elements of the selected scripture.  This reminds God of his promises and why you are praying. He says in Malachi 3:10, “prove me”, or put me to the test.
After you pray, do as in Matthew 6:17 (1) anoint your head with oil (virgin olive) and (2) wash your face.  This is now the start of your fast.
You are to abstain from food until 6:00pm daily. When your meal time arrives make sure that you do not eat beef, pork, or sweets.  Eat fish, poultry, and fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Throughout the day you are not to have a sad countenance or a disfigured face (Matthew 5:16), but appear as you normally would so that God can reward you openly.
Use your usual breakfast and lunch times as times of prayer.
If you are taking medication, do not stop taking your medicine.  Modify your fast to accommodate this.
Get someone that you can call through-out the week so that you have someone to pray with, and you can encourage each other.
Parents, it is up to you how and if your children fast.  I believe that they should start fasting when they become teenagers.  It is very important for them to get their own understanding as to what we are doing, and why we are doing it.
